Bangkok, Thailand-- Floating Market, Tigers, Snakes

The day after Christmas we went on the tour that we had booked the day before. The van came for us at around 7am. SUCH AN EARLY MORNING for being on vacation.

There were 5 other people on the tour with us, all very nice people from Australia.

Erik had finally come back to the hotel room at 5:30am and scared the living crap out of me when he crashed into the room... so needless to say... he was having issues getting up 30 minutes after going to bed. Sucks to be him.

We first went to some place where they make sugar... they gave us a sample (WAY too early for something sweet...). I dropped mine on the ground casually after nibbling on it. Then we went on to the floating market.

We took a speedboat down THE WORLDS dirtiest river. Totally disgusting. There were little houses along the river and people would just walk out of their house and throw their garbage into the river. Nice. BUT, it was definitely interesting to see how people lived and to imagine what it would be like.

Then we go to the main area where there were women in boats selling fruit and other types of food as well as high end purses. Haha. So random. "Yes, I'd like to buy my Dolce and Gabbana from your boat please..."

Along the river were little shops that you could get your 'boat-driver'? to stop at if you wanted to buy something. Kinda cool.

After this we loaded back up into the van and were on our way to lunch. Since it was a little early still we went to a Cobra snake farm thing that was along the way. They had HUGE pythons and crocodiles etc. It was totally something you'd find in the bayou of Florida or Mississippi. Haha. We sat and watched the guys wrestle with various kinds of snakes. Then we went to leave and you could get pictures holding a huge snake.

I had already done this once in Australia, and snakes don't really freak me out. So it was no problem for me. Kristen and her friend Natasha were literally freaking out about it. It was quite funny.

The snake tamer guy thought it was so strange that I wasn't scared of the snake... and he even went and grabbed the back of my leg later to try to scare me. I didn't see him coming, but it still didn't scare me. I just kinda looked at him like he shouldn't be touching me.

After this we loaded back up into the van AGAIN. I had the seat right next to the door that had to be pushed forward for the people in the back to get in. So everytime we had to load back up... I had to wait for everyone else to get in before I could sit down. SO frustrating.

We went to lunch and they had Thai food for lunch. By the way, Thai food is AMAZING. So good. I can't believe I had never tried it before. Korean food is the worst of the asian foods and I think that Thai food rivals Chinese and Japanese for the BEST asian food. We noticed about halfway through lunch that Erik had come to put his backpack down, went to the bathroom and hadn't come back. I finished eating then went to find him. He was sitting with his head down on a picnic bench. Apparently he had become really light headed in the van and was now feeling very sick to his stomach.

Then things got more graphic in the van. GROSS.

We were at the side of the road because Erik was vomiting and Kristen says "The tigers are going to eat him!!!" I laughed so hard.

We finally got to the area with the tigers and we had to dress a certain way, again. Thankfully this time I had brought along my own shirt and didn't have to buy one.

We got to pet tigers and get pictures with them. I was hoping they would have babies that we could feed and hold, but apparently at that time they only had 2 babies that were only days old and no one was allowed to even see them, let alone hold them. That made me kinda sad. But some of the tigers we got pictures with were very little compared to others. I got a couple with a tiger who was only about 7 months old. SO adorable.

Then we were walking around and the animals were all wandering around free and going where they wanted. There were warthogs (like Pumba from The Lion King) laying in this murky water thing that was like a lime green color. So gross. Then I was looking at the peacocks, hoping they would display their cool colors. Obviously I was not paying attention to what was going on around me. I turned to walk away and BAM, there was a warthog, right behind me. Staring at me. About 3 feet from me. I was like "Uh.... awkward..."... I tried to move slowly away since the warthog had huge horn/tooth things. I wasn't in the mood to get injured. Face to face with a warthog. haha. WOOPS!

After this we went to satisfy the history nerd in me. During WWII the Japanese invaded Thailand on their quest through Asia toward India, etc etc. They built a bridge that crossed to Burma... we went to this area and I walked across the bridge. I'm the only one in the entire van that was interested. haha. I'm such a nerd.

Then we ended up leaving and heading back to Bangkok which was about a 3 hour drive.

The next day, Kristen went to meet her cousin who lived in Bangkok for lunch. Natasha and Erik went with her and I stayed back by the hotel. I was hoping to figure out what the deal was with my Korean bank account and why I couldn't get any money out of it. Korea hates me.

I didn't figure anything out, so I decided to cut my losses and go home early because I was literally 100% out of money.

I took a flight home so that I got back to Korea at the same time I would have on my regular flight, only 24 hours early.

I got home, slept and woke up super sick. Fun.

That was my trip to Thailand!!

I loved it, it was so different from Korea and a great place to spend the holidays (besides where I wished I was.... home).
