Thailand Pt 1

HELLO FROM KOH CHANG!!

Kristen, Erik and I are chillaxin on the beach here in Thailand. It's so nice to be away from Korea for awhile. In Korea right now, its snowing... so I'm quite glad that I'm here. You get quite tired of being cold after awhile, and its definitely NOT cold here.

We left Korea at 6am on Saturday the 20th of December.

In the airport, Erik and I thought we had to go to immigration to make sure we were allowed to re-enter Korea. (Much as I'd like to be sent home, it's not the responsible thing to do.) We sat in immigration for about 45 minutes. While sitting there, I turned and saw the most disgusting thing ever. There was this man (we suspect he was Cambodian) who had a huge mole with the longest mole hairs ever. They were stuck to the collar of his shirt. We couldn't believe it. This was the most insane thing ever. We couldn't get a picture without being too obvious. We decided no one would ever believe it if we told them.... it was THAT intense.

It was almost a 5 hour flight. Possibly longer, who can tell?? I was sitting next to Erik while Kristen was further toward the front of the plane. I know no one cares where people were sitting on the plane, but I use these fluff details to think further into what happened later... therefore giving better and juicier details.

Anywho. We got to Bangkok and Kristen had to stash her bags at the airport because we didn't want to drag 3 suitcases around with us for over a week. No thanks.

Then we got a private car to drive us almost 5 hours south to Trad. In Trad we were supposed to catch a ferry to Koh Chang. Unfortunately for us, and our terrible luck, we got to the ferry terminal just as the last ferry was leaving. OF COURSE!! We weren't sure what to do. We had 2 choices, get a hotel somewhere (which we had already paid for the hotel on the island) or bribe someone to take us across. We ended up going for the latter.

Fortunately AND unfortunately for us... there was a guy willing to take us across to the island. He had a boat of his own, if thats what you want to call it. It was like a raft made out of wood that vaguely resembled a boat... I had to sit on the engine. My butt got a nice vibrating massage while we rode across the harbor area. It was definitely over priced and we totally got ripped off. I hate being ripped off when I KNOW I'm getting ripped off. BUT, it provided for a very interesting and unique story, which I'm always up for.

When we got to the island, there was a truck there to take us to our hotel. We got to our hotel, Chai Chet Bungalows, and the people said they gave away our room. WTF??? WHY DID YOU DO THAT?? WE JUST TOOK A FREAKIN RAFT ACROSS THE OCEAN!! Thankfully, they had another one just like it available.

We had ordered another bed to be brought to our room, since the bed was only for 2 and there were 3 of us. Their idea of a bed astounds me. I couldn't believe what I was seeing the people do. Ha. They took the mattress from the original bed and propped it against the wall. I thought maybe they were just changing the sheets or something. No no, they brought in children's floor mats (if you've been to Korea, you'll know what I mean) and put them on the box spring. ::Wait a second.... isn't that the purpose of the mattress?? to pad the box spring???:: I told them that I wanted to sleep on the mattress. I wasn't going to let them take the mattress from the room. I had NO IDEA what they were doing, but it wasn't going to fly.

Finally we convinced them that it was a good idea to put the mattress back on the box spring and stack up the children's mats on the floor for another bed. They were totally confused by us... but they finally left and Kristen and I went to bed while Erik went out to check out the area (no surprise there).

(...to be continued!)
